The ability to navigate in the mountains is a vital skill for survival. You may think having a GPS on your phone is all you need, and to an extent it probably is . . . until it gets dark and the battery goes flat!
Mountain Steps UK has its place, and a part of that is to encourage responsibility. That's why we've included these very simple instructions on how to use a map and compass.
Among other things, a map and compass can :
- Keep you on the route
- Gives a good approximation of time and distance
- Help you work out where you are
- Guide you around in thick cloud or even in the dark!
- Learn to use them well, and then you can really adventure!
